Meet Our Team

Matt Kay
Personal Trainer & Managing Director
Location: Chatsworth Gym

Matt is the founder of born2move, which was a natural career path following a lifetime passion for health and well-being. After spending almost 10 years within the industry Matt became increasingly frustrated with the lack of quality displayed by Personal Trainers and the nonexistent results their clients were achieving. The reality is there is currently no standard in the fitness industry to distinguish between a Personal Trainer that has spent their entire professional lives dedicated to excellence in well-being to help their clients achieve real results and those that have been on a 2 week course, do not deliver results and call themselves a 'Personal Trainer'. Matt developed born2move to help provide customers with a team of exceptional Personal Trainers and a model that delivers real results for all our clients.

After gaining his BSc (Hons) in Exercise and Health Sciences and competing for Great Britain in Triathlons, Matt developed his skills by learning from some of the greatest minds in the fitness industry including Paul Chek (HLC: L1 & L2), Charles Poliquin (PICP & Bio-signature), Sheri Dixon (MTEC: Advanced Metabolic Typing) and personally mentored by Gary Gray (GIFT: FAFS). Through this knowledge Matt developed a unique method for assessing, applying and achieving results based on the unique characteristics of clients called Born-Coding. Born-Coding is at the heart of what born2move stands for and is unrivalled within the industry.

Matt has developed a reputation within the UK fitness industry for being one of the leading minds and has subsequently mentored Personal Trainers, Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Physiotherapists nationwide in the application of functional performance. Matt has also presented for Great British Squads and the British Association of Medical Managers (BAMM), he is a TRX presenter, a Master Trainer and educator with Faster Health and Fitness and has consulted for luxury Spa's and supported the launch of leading Personal Training studios including the London based 25 Club.

Matt is very down to earth and has an inbuilt passion for helping people achieve their goals no matter what they may be. When you visit Matt or any of the born2move trainers you will be treated as an individual and your individual needs will be considered to the point that if we don't think we can help we will refer you to someone that can!

Are you a Personal Trainer?
Matt also offers a mentoring service specifically designed to help other Personal Trainers take their business to the next level. To find out more go to www.born2move.co.uk/born2move_professionals

Ali Crawford
Personal Trainer
Location: Woodlands Fitness Centre (Rowsley)

Ali has recently completed his studies at Durham University achieving a BA (Hons) Sport Degree. His Chosen degree course and joining of the born2move team is the result of a lifetime's passion for sport. Sport in any form, from tennis to rugby, has always taken first place in Ali's life and so when he became one of Matt's (Kay) clients in 2005, to improve his own core strength and muscular power for rugby, Personal Training featured heavily in his mind for a career.

Ali first met Matt when training to represent Scotland U18's rugby at the European Championships. Having then gone on to captain the Scottish Exiles U18 team, representing both his university and county Durham U20's on a national level, Ali has experienced many different physiological and psychological training techniques at a high standard. In conjunction with his international experience and the knowledge he has gained through his degree, Ali has acquired a vast knowledge base for psychological, physiological and motivational techniques to aide future clients.

Having completed his university study, Ali has now supplemented his skill and knowledge base by completing his level 3 certificate in Personal Training with Advanced Functional Trainer. He is now undertaking born2move's in house education programme under the guidance of Matt Kay to ensure his knowledge and training replicates that of the other born2move trainers. On completion of his training with born2move coupled with the breadth of his university teaching, Ali will be fully adept at helping his clients achieve their specific aims and targets.

Alongside the Personal Training, Ali will play a major role on born2move's corporate events and Childrens Initiatives. Having recently achieved a Level 2 certificate in Instructing Health Related Exercise for Children and having completed a number of business modules at university, Ali will be well equipped to manage & run successful child and adult courses.

Ali continues to compete competitively at a number of sports and is very enthusiastic about helping others achieve their exercise and health goals along with the rest of the born2move team.

Tom Oldfield
Personal Trainer
Location: Woodlands Fitness Centre (Rowsley)

Toms career began in the Design and Construction industry working as an Architectural Consultant. Sitting behind a desk for most of the day staring at a computer screen was becoming a little frustrating not to mention the aches and pains due to a terrible seating posture, which was totally out of character for someone who's life revolved around sports. The decision to switch careers was huge but looking back at it now was probably one of the best and most important decisions I have made to date. Before making the move Tom completed the level 3 Diploma in Personal Training accredited by Cambridge University.

Toms keen interest for sport has lead onto a passion to help others achieve fat loss and I higher level of health. Due to Toms background he appreciates the negative impact of a sedentary working environment and the inefficiencies in his body and work when not following a healthy lifestyle. Combined with Tom’s extensive knowledge in health and wellbeing Tom works directly with clients to drop body fat, improve health and with those that have the commitment to carry it through. Tom is based out of born2move’s Synergy Studio as well as delivering home based training and working out of Chatsworth Gym on weekends.

Toms passion for sport has led to achieving honours in various sports including Rugby and Hockey. Tom has represented both Derbyshire and the NLD (Notts, Lincs, Derbys) Senior XV Rugby teams for rugby and Derbyshire for Hockey being selected to play for Derbyshire U21 at the age of 16.
